“There’s floor everywhere,” he said.
I was stunned.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“That there’s floor everywhere, 24 hours a day. You can do pushups.”
I was reporting in to my “accountability coach,” recapping my progress for the month. One of my accountabilities for the month was 20 consecutive pushups at some point during each day. A mindfulness thing: Be engaged… be present.
“How many days did you do them?”
“15.”
“Did you record them?”
“Yes….”
“So, you can tell me on which days you did the pushups?”
“Yes.”
“So, what stopped you on the days that you missed?”
“I was traveling or just got busy…. you know, it’s been a ferocious month. Long hours, a lotta airports, hotels, we….”
“There’s floor everywhere…,” he interrupted.
I went silent. I heard him breathing into the phone for a few seconds.
“You can wash your hands in the airport men’s room when you’ve done the pushups….Did you finish all of the stay-in-touch calls and emails to which you committed this month?”
I went silent, again.
“You know,” he said, “I think there’s 24 hour phone and internet service everywhere, too.”
….Yeah….
